Missed Information...

What is this comic about?

Missed Information is about the communication, or rather the LACK of communication between people. Most of the comic strips are based around a family of three, but some strips contain other relatives, friends, store clerks and other people who are ambiguous communicators. More here…

Who are these characters supposed to be? Do they have names?

There are three main characters:

Learner: The husband who works extra hard to communicate with is wife, or not.
Hati: The wife who has difficulty communicating with the rest of the world.
Soda: Their daughter who is as pretty as her mother and as smart as her father.

Why do the characters only have half of their faces drawn?

Learner thinks that most people are incomplete, generally speaking. We normally make assumptions about the things we do not know about others. Use your imagination to fill in the blanks.

How frequently are new strips posted?

Occasionally. There are over one hundred in the backlog. Subscribe to the RSS feed here: RSS

Who writes this stuff?

This strip is written by Learner (a pseudonym) and all comics are based on actual missed information events.

What is the term "Missed Information" supposed to mean?

It's about the stuff you don't know, but assume to be true. You might make assumptions about things, people, or your environment. For example, when you speak to a friend, you may start with "Hi. How's it going?" A simple question that you assume anyone would understand. Huh? If you made no assumptions you may have to start with: "Do you speak English?.. Do you remember who I am?.. Are you able to comprehend casual conversation laden with idioms and jargon?" So, we make assumptions hundreds of times a day. We do not have to consciously (or continually) ask "Am I alive? Am I awake? Do I live here? Does he/she/it know my name? Does gravity still work?" every day because we are comfortable with our assumptions. Missed Information - the comic - deals with these assumptions, especially when they go wrong.
For example, Hati may say: "If I give him $100, and she gives him $100, it will pay his bill… it's only $240". At this point Learner's brain goes into overdrive trying to reconcile the missing $40 (that's the MissedInformation part…) "Did I miss part of this conversation?.. Is there a 20% discount for cash?.. Is the tooth fairy going to make up the difference?.. Do I understand the new math?.. Has there been a disturbance in the space-time continuum?.. Do I have too much wax in my ears to hear properly?.." and on it goes until he decides none of these assumptions apply as well as the assumption that Hati just cannot do simple math… that assumption fits the situation best… and Hati missed some information.

If Missed Information is about incorrect assumptions, then why isn't the comic named "Incorrect Assumptions"?

Feel free to use that name for your comic strip.
